Earn £5 for every £100 spent at Sainsbury’s

SAINSBURY’S shoppers will be able to earn cashback and discounts on their grocery bills after the supermarket unveiled two credit cards this week.

Sainsbury’s has relaunched its Sainsbury’s Nectar Credit Card and unveiled its new Sainsbury’s cashback credit card.

Both cards have an interest rate of 17.9 pc — this is a percentage point higher than the previous version of the Sainsbury’s Nectar card, which has been withdrawn.

However, both cards offer six months interest-free on purchases and 15 months interest free on balance transfers, with a 3pc fee.

To benefit from the Nectar Credit Card you need to sign up for Sainsbury’s Nectar loyalty scheme. Normally members receive two Nectar points for every £1 spent in store, with 500 Nectar points adding up to £2.50.

The card allows you to rack up points at a more rapid rate, but only initially. For every £1 you spend in Sainsbury’s in the first three months after opening the card you will receive eight points, and if you then swipe your Nectar card at the checkout you will receive an extra two points. The maximum amount on which you can earn points each month is £1,000. However, once the three-month introductory period is over the number of points you earn drops to two for every £1 spent on your card, with an extra two if you swipe your Nectar card at the till. You also earn one Nectar point for every £5 spent elsewhere.

The cashback card offers up to 5 pc cashback on spending in Sainsbury’s in the first three months, with a maximum of £50 each month. After this, cardholders can receive an extra £5 each month if they spend at least £250 in Sainsbury’s and at least £250 elsewhere on the card each month.

Meanwhile, new American Express Nectar Card customers who sign up before November 7 and spend £1,000 within the card’s first three months will receive 10,000 Nectar points. The offer, to celebrate Nectar’s 10th anniversary, is worth at least £50.
