I am not wasting my time, says Tom
THERE was only one Tom Daley on public display yesterday: his new waxwork at Madame Tussauds. The real Daley did not attend, instead urging his fans via Twitter to take a look at his likeness on Facebook. An hour later he issued a statement saying he had dealt with the concerns of performance director Alexei Evangulov, who last week told
Sportsmail that Daley was in danger of becoming diving’s Anna Kournikova — all media dazzle but not enough delivery. Daley, a poster boy for London 2012 and a former world champion, said: ‘Following a meeting between British Swimming, my coaching team and my team at Professional Sports Group on Friday, I am glad that we have addressed some important issues, discovered some new ones and that we are all fully committed to the same goal. ‘Alexei has had full approval over everything that I have done in terms of my commercial work since 2011. He is entitled to his opinions and, of course, I listen to them. He is one of the best performance directors in the world and I still have a lot to learn from him.’ Daley, 17, is considering a media career post-diving and is a keen tweeter. He added: ‘Twitter and Facebook are fun. It is my generation. It has never taken up any training or performance time. ‘I am featured in some marketing campaigns and in the media in the coming months. I want to re-emphasise that I will not be personally involved. I will be training or taking part in elite competitions overseas. This strategy has not changed. The campaigns were structured for a minimum of my time.’
