STORY SO FAR: Liz Bonnin
The presenter of Animals Behaving Badly (8pm, BBC1), Liz Bonnin, is one of our most knowledgeable broadcasters, often dubbed the ‘new David Attenborough’…
Exotic creature: Liz was born in Paris to a French father and a Trinidadian mother of Indian-Portuguese descent, and she grew up in Ireland; her family moved to Dublin when she was nine years old.
Natural talent: After developing a passion for biology and chemistry at school, Liz went on to achieve a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry; she also has a master’s in wild animal biology and conservation. Despite her academic leanings, she began her career as part of Irish girl group Chill – though signed to Polydor, they broke up before recording anything, and Liz was offered work presenting television in Ireland. In 2002, she moved to London, and soon became a regular host on both Top Of The Pops and the Channel 4 morning show RI:SE. Call of the wild: In 2005, Liz began to move into science broadcasting, presenting
Gadgets, Gadgets, Gadgets. From 2009-14, she co-hosted the BBC1 science show Bang Goes The Theory. Alongside her ongoing conservation work, she has hosted numerous shows including Super Smart Animals, Stargazing Live, Wild Alaska Live, Egypt’s Lost Cities, How The Earth Works, Galapagos, Should We Close Our Zoos?, Countrywise,
Cats v Dogs: Which Is Best?, Operation Snow Tiger and several Horizons. Her next documentary, Drowning In Plastic, is due to air later this year.
