Sargent earns stripes as Canaries win at last

-

JOSH SARGENT rose to the occasion as Norwich saw off 10-man Huddersfield 2-1 to get their Championship campaign off and running at the fourth attempt.

USA striker Sargent, right, headed in the opener and Danel Sinani was also on target on a night when the Terriers played almost half the game a man down after Tom Lees’ dismissal for bringing Sargent down when through on goal.

It was a first league win of the season in the end for Dean Smith’s Canaries – who had kicked off bottom – but substitute Pat Jones’ late Terriers reply made them sweat.

Jay Rodriguez rescued a point for Burnley in his first start of the season as they drew 1-1 at home to Hull.

The 33-year-old striker levelled for the Clarets after Ozan Tufan had fired the Tigers into the lead at Turf Moor.

Rodriguez, back from injury, also missed a great chance to win it for Burnley.

Two own-goals in added time earned Millwall a point as they hit back to draw 2-2 at Swansea City.

Harry Darling put the ball into his net in the 93rd minute and another own-goal from Nathan-Wood one minute later completed the comeback.

Swansea scored two goals in the first 12 minutes. Ryan Manning hammered home inside a minute and then Michael Obafemi made it 2-0.

First-half strikes from Nahki Wells and Tommy Conway produced a first league win of the season for 10-man Bristol City, seeing off Luton Town 2-0. Mark Sykes received a straight red card in the 67th minute for diving into a tackle on Luke Freeman, but Nigel Pearson’s men held out with few alarms.

Josh Bowler’s goal in first-half stoppage time gave Blackpool a 1-0 win at QPR.

Preston did everything but score as they slugged out their third goalless stalemate of the season against Rotherham.
