Craig felt ‘physically really low’ despite a body To Die for

- By Lucy Mapstone

DANIEL Craig has revealed how he felt “physically really low” during the five-year wait for his latest Bond film.

The star, now 52, has clearly kept in shape in the 15 years since he was unveiled as the new 007 back in 2005.

But the dad-of-two, who returns this year for his final outing as the spy in No Time To Die, said this time around he struggled with the physicality of preparation and suffered from anxiety.

He told GQ magazine: “I was never going to do one again [a Bond film].

“I was like, ‘Is this work really genuinely worth this, to go through this, this whole thing?’

Regret

“I felt physically really low. So the prospect of doing another movie was just, like, off the cards. And that’s why it has been five years.”

Craig told how he became anxious because he would not get a script before filming started.

He said: “I have suffered from it in the past. I have suffered because it’s been like, ‘I can’t cope. I can’t deal with this’.”

The British actor told of his regret over not speaking up about scripts for the previous four Bond films in which he has starred. He said: “I’ve kept my mouth shut before. I’ve stayed out of it, I’ve respected it and I’ve regretted that I did.”

Looking ahead to life after Bond, Craig – who is married to actress Rachel Weisz, 50 – said that his future may involve “having another kid, maybe just being older”.

But he added: “There are other things that are more important.

“I’m pretty sure I can play just about anything. Yeah. I’m pretty sure I can, or at least I can make a

******* good fist of it.”

Daniel also said the latest film will have references to US President Donald Trump.

He said: “We struggled to keep Trump out of this film, but of course it is there. It’s always there, whether it’s Trump, or whether it’s Brexit, or whether it’s Russian influence on elections or whatever.”

No Time To Die finds Bond having left active service and enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica, before his old CIA friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) turns up asking for help.
