BRITAIN’S MOST EVIL RAPIST JAILED FOR 136 ATTACKS

- By Chris Riches

THE most prolific rapist in British legal history was jailed for life with a minimum of 30 years yesterday – amid fears he may have attacked up to 195 men.

Student Reynhard Sinaga, 36, who arrived in the UK from Sumatra, in Indonesia, often posed as a Good Samaritan.

But he was branded “evil” and a “monster” by victims and lawyers.

Over two-a-half years he carried out 136 rapes after luring 48 young men back to his Manchester apartment by offering them a place to stay overnight.

Manchester Crown Court heard that many of his victims were heterosexual, some were married with children.

They had thought Sinaga was offering them his sofa to sleep on, but using date-rape drug GHB he incapacitated them, raped them and filmed the attacks on his phone.

After four trials and a media blackout, he has now been jailed for life and the extent of his atrocious acts can be revealed.

Yesterday Ian Rushton, North West deputy chief Crown prosecutor, said: “Sinaga is the most prolific rapist in British legal history.

Predator

“His extreme sense of sexual entitlement almost defies belief.

“He would no doubt still be adding to his staggering tally had he not been caught.

“His unthreatening demeanour duped these men, many thanking him for his kindness, into thinking this monster was a Good Samaritan.

“But once back at his flat he used victims as objects purely for his own gratification.”

Jailing him Judge Suzanne Goddard said: “You are an evil serial sexual predator.

“Having lured men to your flat with the promise of more drink and socialising, you raped them in the most callous of ways.

“One of your victims described you as a monster – this is an accurate description.”

She said Sinaga, who came to the UK in 2007 on a student visa, claimed to be a regular church-goer.

But he was in reality “a cold, callous and deceitful” rapist who had “shown not one jot of remorse” and seemed to “enjoy the trial process”.

Sinaga even beamed in the dock as he was led down to serve his life sentence. The court heard the impact of his crimes was still being felt. Two victims made suicide bids after learning they were abused while unconscious. The hearing last autumn was told his crimes were finally uncovered when a rugbyplaying student, aged 18, regained consciousness while being attacked. Groggy under the drug’s influence the victim fought Sinaga off, leaving the rapist with head injuries and needing to go to hospital. He managed to grab Sinaga’s phone on which the rapes were recorded and gave it to police. The victim was initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to Sinaga until officers found the sick videos on his phone.

Greater Manchester Police now fear Sinaga sexually assaulted up to 195 victims.

They say up to 70 victims in the videos have yet to be identified.

Of 48 victims who gave evidence in court, three were gay. Their ages ranged from 19 to 36.

One was raped eight times in six hours in Sinaga’s lair in central Manchester. No victims were ever aware they had been attacked.

The trials heard that Sinaga had a fetish for straight young men.

He boasted in one message to a friend that one victim was “a first timer”. He raped one victim after a New Year’s Eve night out in 2014 and joked to a friend: “He was straight in 2014. 2015 is his breakthrough to the gay world ha ha ha.”

Asleep

Sinaga was convicted of 136 rapes, eight attempted rapes, 14 sexual assaults and two other sex attacks. The ex-Leeds and Manchester University student, doing a PhD in geography, claimed victims consented to gay sex while pretending to be asleep. But prosecutors proved that was “absurd”.

The jury could hear the snores of victims in the films. Judge Goddard told Sinaga the drug he used had a “narrow margin between euphoric high and the risk of death”.

She added: “It was a risk you were prepared to ignore to satisfy your perverted desire to have sex with unconscious heterosexual young men.”

Greater Manchester Police’s Mabs Hussain said: “Sinaga is a depraved individual. We believe he is Britain’s most prolific rapist. We suspected 195 victims have been involved. I cannot begin to imagine what they have had to endure and what they are still living with today.”
