We may lose magic Maja

-

SUNDERLAND boss Jack Ross admitted he could lose star striker Josh Maja after the Black Cats blew the chance to move top.

The 19-year-old’s late goal rescued a 1-1 draw against Wycombe at the Stadium of Light.

Fred Onyedinma opened the scoring in the second half before Maja levelled with his 11th goal of the season.

Sunderland sit second, two points behind leaders Portsmouth, but would have gone top on goal difference with victory.

Ross said: “I know Maja will be here with me until minimum January and I would hope longer but you can’t say that with any certainty. I do know he is enjoying his football and playing regularly and contributing and you sometimes forget how young he is.

“To score 11 goals – he deserves huge credit for that but he is level-headed. He knows there are aspects of his game he needs to improve on and he knows he can progress here.”

Barnsley climbed to third, two points behind the automatic spots, after a 2-0 win at Accrington. Cauley Woodrow and Kieffer Moore netted and coach Daniel Stendel promised more after his side overcame Zeki Fryers’ dismissal.

Stendel said: “We showed a good attitude and I am happy with the squad and players. There is more to come but we showed we could cope with difficult situations.”

Luton remain fifth after James Collins’ hat-trick helped demolish Plymouth 5-1. Elliot Lee and James Justin also scored while Joel Grant grabbed the Pilgrims’ consolation.

Blackpool are seventh following a 2-1 win at Southend.
