1 A CLOCK

If there is one thing I can’t stand it is poor time keeping, and I am never late myself as I keep a constant eye on the clock.

Most mornings I wake before 6am and the minute I open my eyes, I’m ready to jump out of bed.

I always leave about half an hour before I need to as I am such a stickler for being on time.

Tardiness to me is nothing short of bad manners as being late implies that you have no consideration for anyone else’s time.

2 THE BEATLES

I grew up as one of six brothers and we all absolutely loved music. Every one of us idolised The Beatles – and I still do.

As a teenager I used to dream of becoming John Lennon as his lyrics were second to none. All the Fab Four’s songs are fantastic and I cannot think of a single one that I don’t like. Music has always been a huge part of my life and when I was young, Thursday nights were a real highlight of the week as that’s when Top Of The Pops was on.

As well as The Beatles, other long-term favourites of mine include The Eagles, Gerry and the Pacemakers and Dusty Springfield. I’m also a big fan of Adele.

3 EARLY NIGHTS

I live by the saying “early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”. Ideally I like to be in bed by 10pm as this means I can spend half an hour relaxing with a good book or a Sudoku puzzle.

It also ensures I am up with the lark in the morning, which I love as I always feel so lucky to be able to greet another new day.

When it’s warm enough I’ll fling open the French windows and take in a big breath of fresh air. It’s never long before I start singing and I don’t tend to stop so it’s probably a good thing I live alone.

4 BATHROOM MIRROR

Being on my own does mean that I need to give myself regular compliments to feel good.

So first thing in the morning, I always smile into the bathroom mirror and indulge in a bit of positive self-talk.

My first words are usually something like this: “Good morning, sir. Aren’t you looking great today?”

It sounds a bit silly but it’s surprising how effective it can be as I always start the day in a good mood.

I wouldn’t describe myself as vain but I do like to look my best. I can’t stand the idea of even popping to the supermarket without doing my hair and smartening up first.

5 MY SECRET SOULMATE

I don’t really like to talk too much about my personal life as I think some things should remain private. But I can say that there is someone very special in my life who I think of as my absolute soulmate. This individual always makes me very happy and I really can’t imagine living without their support. I think we all need somebody who loves us unquestioningly and understands where we are coming from without being afraid to disagree with what we are saying or doing. The person I am speaking about knows who they are and that I will do anything for them.
