Filling jobs gap
SUBWAY is one of the largest and most successful franchise brands, with more than 2,500 stores across the UK and Ireland. Its robust franchise system has helped thousands of people build their own businesses and become their own boss.
Myles Bull is one of its newest franchisees and at just 26, he joins a growing number of young people discovering the attractions of franchising.
Myles explains: “I always wanted to run my own business and franchising seemed like the perfect way to achieve this. In the first couple of years, many new start-ups fail and it’s very difficult to make a profit.
“With franchising, you can hit the ground running with a tried-and-tested business model. And with a franchise like Subway, there is an established customer base and great brand awareness.
“There is a strong support network too. It’s an ideal model for entrepreneurial individuals who want to start their own businesses.”
After graduating with a degree in Business and Enterprise Management, Myles undertook a brief stint as an IT reseller in London, gaining valuable people management skills and experience before embarking on his career as a Subway franchisee. Myles says: “Subway is a good financial fit, it’s competitively priced for its size and stature.”
He attended a two-week training course at Subway’s UK and Ireland HQ in Cambridge, where a blend of theoretical content and practical time in a store equip all new franchisees with the knowledge and skills they need.
“The training was so helpful and it was fantastic to be able to put this into practice once the store opened. But the support doesn’t stop there. The ongoing advice and guidance from my local Subway Development Team is priceless.
“They are always at the end of the phone or email, whatever time, to answer questions and provide assistance.”
More than 70 per cent of new stores are opened by existing franchisees and Myles wants to become a multiunit owner. “I want to purchase a second store this year. As I grow my business, I’ll grow my team, providing opportunities for those who work for me and creating new opportunities for local people.”
If you want to be your own boss and join one of the largest and most popular franchise brands, Subway wants to hear from you.
