DOGGONE... AND BACK!

Pup ‘ taken’ by Amazon driver reunited with owner

- By David Pilditch

A DOG owner spoke of his delight as he was reunited with his puppy yesterday after claiming it was stolen when a delivery driver dropped off an Amazon parcel.

Shocked Richard Guttfi eld, 51, said his 11- month- old miniature schnauzer Wilma vanished shortly after the agency driver left a supply of dog food he ordered online.

Mr Guttfi eld turned pet detective and neighbours and friends spent fi ve days searching for the dog.

Father- of- one Mr Guttfi eld said: “I can’t believe it and feel I’m the luckiest man alive.”

He added: “I just want people to know this can happen. Our homes are all exposed to these drivers and the vast majority of them are great.”

Mr Guttfi eld, a printing business owner who lives in a £ 1.5million home in Marsworth, Bucks, said: “After he left I realised Wilma was missing while our other puppy Fred was still there. I called Amazon in case the driver had accidentally let her out or seen her.”

A desperate Mr Guttfi eld sent an email to Amazon president Jeff Bezos, who is based in Seattle.

Rob Levy, of Amazon logistics in the UK, tracked the van’s movements which appeared to show the driver making another delivery then going home, where Mr Levy found Wilma. Mr Guttfi eld said: “A couple of hours later he called and said, ‘ Can you describe your dog?’ I described her and he said ‘ She is here with me right now’.”

Amazon said last night: “This is inexcusable and does not refl ect the high standards we have for our delivery partners. This individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages.”

Thames Valley Police said they are investigating.
