Swans spurred by Sigurdsson
GYLFI SIGURDSSON has been providing inside information to boost Swansea’s bid to make history against Tottenham.
Swansea have not beaten Spurs in 25 years, never winning at White Hart Lane, but Sigurdsson, who made 58 league appearances for Spurs in a two-year spell before returning to the Liberty Stadium in 2014, is giving Swans boss Bob Bradley the lowdown on Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
“Gylfi has been helping,” said Bradley. “He has a good presence in the team. He’s not the most vocal guy but he’s well respected in the squad. I’ve been very impressed with his versatility.”
Pochettino, meanwhile, is confident his players can get back to winning ways now they have had time to stop and think.
Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea last Saturday ended their unbeaten start to the league campaign. That followed another 2-1 loss, in Monaco, which meant they could not progress from their Champions League qualifying group.
They have just one win in all competitions since beating Manchester City 2-0 on October 2 and Pochettino said: “When you are playing and travelling it’s difficult to be calm and stop the ball because you always need to be focused on the next game, the next game, the next game.
“It has been a good opportunity to see the bigger picture and try to analyse everything.
“There have been a lot of meetings, showing tactical decisions, behaviour, attitude – different things to try to give them the better tools to improve because it’s always about improving.
“We needed a week like this, a clear week.” SIGURDSSON
