Jones returns to Taffs Well

-

TAFFS Well are gearing up for the new season with some very hard training sessions which should pay off when September 3 comes around.

There have been several new recruits including Leigh Jones who has returned to the club from Glyncoch. The back row player will put pressure on the others in this position for a place in the starting XV.

The coaching team of Axel Rees, Gavin Close and Rhys Watkins are still together while most of last season’s league winners remain, except for Ross Lucas who has joined Rhy- dyfelin as player coach. There is a dilemma for Gary Lucas, father of Ross, with his other son Garyn staying at Taffs Well. Gary didn’t miss a game last season and now he will have to chose which son he watches play.

Pre-season games are confirmed for this Saturday, August 20 against Bryncoch at home (kickoff 2pm), this will be followed by the ladies team who will kick off at 3.30pm against Croesyceiliog ladies, and then Saturday, August 27 the first team travel to Dowlais, while the second XV are home to Porth, kick-off 2.30pm.

The newly formed youth team are training on Monday nights under the guidance of Rob Mota, and while numbers are increasing any youngster who is under 19 on September 1, no matter what experience they have, would be made very welcome.

The club has a new fixture secretary with Alan Edwards stepping down after several years of doing an excellent job. The club wish to thank Alan and to welcome his replacement Ieuan Rees, who will undoubtedly carry on the good work.
