WESSEX DEALERSHIPS GET FUNDRAISING FOR TWO CARDIFF CHARITIES

-

Staff at two car dealerships in Cardiff have this year been busy raising money for charities in the city and are hoping to hit £5,000 by the end of December.

Wessex Garages on Hadfield Road and Penarth Road chose a charity each in January to support throughout the year. The Hadfield dealership is fundraising for George Thomas Hospice Care and members of staff at the Penarth showroom are backing Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales.

Gareth Howells, general manager at Wessex Garages on Hadfield Road, said: “We would like to thank our staff and customers who have helped us so far in raising money for these two amazing charities. They help lots of people in our community and are a lifeline for so many. We hope to raise even more money in the final five months.

“Some of our staff have gone above and beyond in aid of these charities such as 55-year-old Ian Mcauliffe, a new car sales executive from Caerphilly, who recently shaved off his hair on his head to raise money for George Thomas Hospice Care.

“Eight members of staff including myself also took part in the Llandaff Charity Raft Race on June 5 and raised an amazing £300 for George Thomas Hospice Care. We had a fantastic time and designed our raft at the workshop. It did manage to keep us afloat! We can’t wait to sign up to take part again next year. A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who sponsored us.

“Our two Cardiff dealerships also teamed up and hosted a charity football match at the Newport International Sports Village on June 14 to tie in with the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.

“The football match was between all of the Wessex Garages’ branches in Wales against all of the branches in England. We have three dealerships in Wales and four in England and members of staff from each outlet formed a Welsh team and an English team to battle it out on the pitch.

“It was a fantastic game. Wales scored a goal in the first 15 minutes and then England fouled and Wales missed a penalty. England then scored a penalty to equalise five minutes from the end. Wales then managed to score another goal with seconds to full time making them the winners.

“As well as being a great team building exercise the event was to raise money for all our charities of the year, including George Thomas Hospice Care and Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales.”

Staff at the Penarth dealership are planning to host a Wessex Welly Wednesday and art-gallery event to raise further funds for Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales.

George Thomas Hospice Care was established in 1984 and has helped more than 24,000 patients and their families in Cardiff. It is committed to personal dignity, quality of life and the highest possible standards of care and service.

The services George Thomas Hospice Care provides are free of charge. It offers a number of services at its Hospice Centre based in Whitchurch Hospital Grounds, however much of its work takes place in its patients’ homes.

Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales is a registered charity, which provides specialist physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. Its mission is to deliver world-class Bobath therapy to as many children with cerebral palsy in Wales as possible.

Bobath therapists are state- registered and work together as a team to combine these disciplines to give each child the skills to explore their world, communicate their needs, maximise their potential and so improve their quality of life.

Gareth added: “Whether you are purchasing a car from us or using any of our aftersales services, we guarantee you will experience the same high level of customer service. At the core of our business are the three pillars: trust, transparency and value for money. It is these elements that set us apart from our competitors and make us ‘The Intelligent Choice’.

“As the new plate change comes into effect on September 1 we’ve put together the very best deals from all of the manufacturers that we represent and are offering motorists in Cardiff and the surrounding area a number of outstanding deals for the new 66 plate, with our ‘Route 66’ package.

“Depending on which manufacturer the customer is interested in there are six fantastic deals available including two years servicing for £199, 0% finance, £1,000 off when you take a test drive, £500 more for your part exchange, up to £1,500 deposit allowance and nil advance payment for our Motability customers.”
