RACING ROUND UP
The Tour of the Alps was won overall by Juan Pedro López (Lidl-trek) after he took stage three last Wednesday, holding the green leader’s jersey all the way to the finish. It was the Spaniard’s first ever GC victory; he beat Ben O’connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-victorious).
Stage two was won by Alessandro De Marchi (Jayco-alula) after he had spent all day in the break. Not to be outdone, Simon Carr (EF Education-easypost) did the same on stage four, which ended with the 25-year-old soloing to victory from 45km out, the longest ever successful long-range attack at the race. The final day was won by Aurélien Paret-peintre (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) in the closest thing the mountainous race had to a sprint.
It was a successful weekend of junior racing for Great Britain’s female riders last weekend, as Amelia Cebak led home a quintet of Brits at Ghent-wevelgem Juniors on Sunday. She outsprinted her fellow Tofauti Everyone Active rider Rebecca Gardiner, with Imogen Wol (Shibden
Hopetech Apex) following in fourth.
Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, Cat Ferguson (Great Britain) won the threeday Omloop van Borsele. The 17-year-old won the opening day’s time trial and led throughout, but both stages two and three were won by Carys Lloyd, with Ferguson in second. The elite version of the same race, the one-day Omloop van Borsele, was won by Sofie van Rooijen
(Volkerwessels), followed by Daria Pikulik
(Human Powered Health), with Elynor Bäckstedt (Lidl-trek) in third.
