Goals can get party going again - star

- By ANDY TURNER

GERVANE Kastaneer is convinced Coventry City can get their League One party started again.

The Sky Blues started the season in sensational form, hitting the dizzy heights of top spot for a few days, at least, after an outstanding unbeaten run that ran for ten games before juddering to a halt at Rotherham United when they were on the end of a wholly out of character 4-0 thumping.

A 1-0 defeat to struggling Tranmere Rovers followed before last weekend’s goalless draw at MK ‘can’t buy a win’ Dons came as the third consecutive game in which City have failed to score.

But Kastaneer has offered this reassuring message to the fans.

“Goals are a problem just now but I know what we are doing in training and we are scoring every day,” said the Dutch winger.

“Every player is putting the ball in the net every time, so if it goes in once again then it’s going to be a party again.”

The focus has fallen on the front three who have missed a stack of chances in recent weeks – a situation magnified by Jordy Hiwula’s penalty miss at Stadium:MK on Saturday.

“I know the players, Matty Godden, Jordy Hiwula and Callum O’Hare, and in training they score every time.

“I know we haven’t scored for a while in games but it will come.”

Asked if he feels confidence is an issue in the camp, the 23-year-old insisted: “Not for me and not for the them.

“It’s always difficult for the strikers if they don’t score because people are going to talk.

“But it’s always nice to score the first goal again and then you feel like you can keep going.

“So we just need that first one to go in again and we’ll be back, hopefully starting against Fleetwood.”
