MEET & GREET
How long have you been in business? Containers Direct has been going since 2008. It started with a small office and a handful of people, and has grown into a fully staffed two-storey building with our own in-house conversion workshops.
What’s your specialism? We convert shipping containers into a range of portable buildings, using bespoke designs tailored to our clients’ requirements. Garages are our speciality, and we offer them as a standard design for best value, bespoke builds and double garages.
How did you get into the industry? While selling containers, we saw huge potential for converting them into low-cost, strong and secure buildings for many applications. We still sell containers for storage, but our conversion work is what we enjoy most: it’s good to keep challenging the business to come up with new solutions.
What’s your dream classic? An Aston Martin DB5, so I can pretend that I’m the first ginger James Bond!
What’s your dream drive? Very clichéd, but I’d love to take a few weeks to explore Route 66 across the States. The oldfashioned towns off the beaten track appeal to me more than the big cities.
What’s your favourite classic event?
I love to see cars in action, so would have to say Goodwood Revival. It’s a must-see.
How’s business? Surprisingly good. We’ve survived the impact of COVID-19, shipping container shortages and a spike in the cost of materials due to the changing economy, and found that demand is still high. We’re very grateful to still be thriving.
Tell us something interesting about you I played junior tennis for Ireland and did some coaching in Australia – something I’d love to have pursued full-time if they had let me stay longer than a year.
