Got a favourite Norton T-shirt? Send in a pic and glory beckons...

THE NORTON OWNERS Club is asking owners and enthusiasts to send in pictures of their favourite Norton T-shirt design, in a bid to determine the ‘best ever’ Norton T-shirt in the 60-plus years of the club’s existence.

They reckon that since its formation in 1959, literally hundreds of T-shirts have been commissioned by the club, its UK and overseas branches, and by individual members. Some have been produced to mark events such as rallies, some to celebrate sporting success or to celebrate specific anniversaries, and others... well, just for the hell of it! And they see this as a light-hearted way to trace the club’s history through the medium of the T-shirt.

Peter Scatchard, UK Branches Liaison Officer of the Norton Owners Club Ltd, and one of the club’s Directors said: “Our merchandising officer says that ‘T-shirts should feature motorcycles or events/activities/gatherings/ rallies or other reasons related to Norton from motorcyclists in any organisation involving Norton owners anywhere in the world. The T-shirt itself does not have to show a name of a club.”

The man tasked with judging what is ‘the best ever Norton T-shirt’ design is Marcello Minale, head of the international design agency Minale Tattersfield. Headquartered in London and with offices in Paris, Brussels, Moscow and Sydney, Marcello’s agency has been designing winners for as long as there has been a Norton Owners Club, with brand identities ranging from Harrods to Illy Coffee, Eurostar and Irn Bru have all come from Minale Tattersfield.

And when he’s not designing, he’s riding his bikes. Recently he’s started a co-working space called ‘Salty Commune’ with two friends in the old ’59 Club in Hackney, London.

All you have to do is photograph your chosen Norton T-shirt – on or off yours or anyone else’s torso – and send the image with your name to: bestnoctshirt@nortonownersclub.org

If you like, include a word or two on how you came by the T-shirt. The closing date for entries is November 30, 2020. CB will be featuring some of the T-shirt designs in a future issue.
