Work for Eisteddfod continues

- IAN LEWIS Reporter ian.lewis@walesonline.co.uk

WORK is under way for the National Eisteddfod of Wales which will be held in Ceredigion between July 30 and August 6.

The event will be held in the town of Tregaron, and the whole county is gearing up to welcome the longawaited eisteddfod to its corner of West Wales.

The eisteddfod will bring a surge in visitors during the busy summer period, and Ceredigion Council is preparing a warm welcome to all.

A significant increase in the amount of traffic on the highway network in the area is expected during this period as well as during the set up and break up periods.

The council said while it is intended to operate local bus services as scheduled it is very likely there will be some disruptions to these which will include extended journey times.

Ceredigion bus operators will make every effort to minimise the impact on the travelling public.

As well as the scheduled local bus services additional commercial services are being provided by bus companies from Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Aberaeron to the Maes.

It is intended to provide waste collection services as scheduled across most of Ceredigion during the week commencing August 2.

However, due to the increase in traffic volumes specifically in Tregaron the council will be making some slight localised changes to collection arrangements.

Those affected will be contacted directly and anyone not contacted can put their refuse out as usual.

There will be an increased presence of officers from Ceredigion Council in Tregaron during the eisteddfod period who will provide advice and information while monitoring activities.

Drivers are advised to check the parking restrictions in place prior to leaving their vehicle.

This is especially important as there will be temporary changes to the parking restrictions, one way systems and speed limits in place during this time.

Advance directional signage will be positioned at key locations within and outside the county boundary.

Motorists are advised to follow the route signage and not rely on their satellite navigation systems to take any shortcuts or detours.

Councillor Keith Henson, Ceredigion Council’s cabinet member for highways and environmental services and carbon management, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming the National Eisteddfod of Wales to Ceredigion, where it will be located at Tregaron.

“This is a great opportunity to promote and celebrate the county and in order to ensure a successful event, we would like to call on everyone to take extra care and precaution when travelling during this busy period.

“Public safety is of the upmost importance and we would like to thank everyone for their co-operation during this busy yet exciting period for Ceredigion.

“Keep an eye out too for the wonderful banners, bunting and signs made by Ceredigion communities to welcome the eisteddfod as the county will be beaming with excitement and colour.”

Schools from all over Ceredigion have also been busy over the past few weeks preparing for the eisteddfod.

In addition to the rehearsals for the stage competitions, they have taken part in various creative projects, including decorating their schools to welcome the event.

A number of schools from the area will also be performing at ‘Llwyfan-ni - Pentre’ Ceredigion’s performance stage at the eisteddfod.

A variety of performances by schools will take place at 10am every morning at Pentre’ Ceredigion on the Maes.
