Crawford takes the top prize

-

CARMARTHEN Golf Club seniors finally got to play WL Davies 2 following some unfortunate postponements due to inclement weather.

This is a three-round competition with the best aggregate from two of them giving the winner.

The winner was Jimmy Crawford with a very commendable 41 points. Second was Peter Collins with 39 points, Jimmy Myo was in third with 38 points, and Huw Michael just beat Fred Steel into fourth courtesy of a better back nine, both scoring 36 points.

Following the first two rounds Crawford is in pole position with his 79 points, with Myo second on 76 points. Four or five players are also in the 70s but all will have to produce a round in the 40+ points in the final round to be in the running for the trophy.

Twos were recorded by Haydn Harries, Robert Jayes, Huw Rees and Rodri Davies, who incidentally recorded a hole in one the previous weekend.

A mention must be given to new head greenkeeper Anthony Harry and his greens staff who in just over a month have carried out some extraordinary work to the course. Long-serving members say the greens are in as good a condition as they have ever seen them.

The annual seniors trip takes place this week, with nearly 40 members going to De Vere Wokefield Estate Golf Club near Reading to enjoy three days of different competitions.

The Seniors As & Bs go to the Grove GC near Porthcawl to try to win both the South Wales Classic Cup and Bowl competitions.
