THE Society met at Neuadd Fach on October 3 when the usual harvest service was centered on Thanksgiving for the NHS. Angela welcomed 50 members and the speaker Aneira Thomas. With Shirley at the piano, members began with a hymn, reading from St Luke and prayers.

Angela introduced Aneira, the first baby born after the introduction of the Health Service on July 5, 1948. Aneira told members of her life, marriage, career in the NHS and widowhood with great detail and humour.

She is in the process of writing a book Hold on Edna Hold on, dedicated to her mother. Aneira had attended Gwendraeth Grammar School with Angela and Jean and it was Jean who gave a vote of thanks to their life long friend.

A collection was made for Alzheimers’ Sufferers and refreshments followed.

New member Wendy Beynon was welcomed, Pat wished well after a cataract operation and Hazel Ward given condolences on the loss of her husband.

Egwad advised 34 members would be attending the Isle of Wight holiday on October 29 when the coach would leave Tumble Garage at 9am to begin collecting members. The ferry crossing was booked for 3.30pm.

There had been a great many birthdays since the last meeting and John, Marilyn, Maureen, Heulwen, Shirley, Elaine, Wendy, Alcwyn, Esme were all serenaded accordingly.

Elizabeth and Graham will be celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary and were congratulated on the occasion.

Everyone was reminded of the meeting in Llanddarog Village Hall regarding a proposed new bus shelter in the village.
