Replacement engine issues

-

I arranged for a local garage to purchase and install a low-mileage secondhand engine. It was fine for a while but now a problem has arisen. Apparently the trip indicator no longer works and is replaced by an ‘INSP’ light. In addition, according to my grandson, the total mileage indicated flips from one figure to another – one is undoubtedly the total mileage of the Corsa and the other could be the mileage of the donor car. I must admit that this is pure guesswork on my part and I was under the impression that altering mileage was illegal. Chances are this is some sort of electronic problem and I would appreciate your opinion. Austin Burgess The ‘INSP’ you are seeing in the display is short for ‘inspection’ and is the service indicator; once this is reset, the trip display should then be visible. It can be cleared as follows: with the ignition off (key in ignition), press and hold the mileage reset button. While continuing to hold down the button, turn on the ignition. After a short time the display will begin to flash and then be replaced by four dashes. Now release the reset button and turn off the ignition. The ‘INSP’ will now be cleared.

The total mileage indicator on your Corsa will only retain the mileage of the vehicle and should not be affected by the engine change. If your Corsa has the dash that includes a clock in the display and this has not been reset since the engine change, it is possible that these are the numbers being flashed on the display. Pressing and holding the reset button for more than two seconds while the ignition is on should put the clock into set mode. The hour digits will first flash and can be set by turning the reset button. By pressing and holding the reset button again, the minute digits will flash and can be adjusted accordingly.
