Runners in final sprint of annual handicap race

-

THE FINAL 5K leg of Campbeltown Running Club’s annual handicap race saw 33 runners charge around the loch to try and grab victory.

The damp, cool conditions were ideal for good times, with several runners breaking the 20 minute mark.

First over the finish line was 22-year-old Glenbarr runner Eilidh Macalister.

She was followed shortly afterwards by 10-year-old Ben Osborne, completing his first ever 5K run.

Stuart McGeachy recorded the quickest time on the night, finishing in 16 minutes 31 seconds.

Perfect attendance

John Galbraith kept up his perfect attendance so far, having ran all 40 legs of the handicap race since it’s inception eight years ago.

A running club spokesperson said: ‘Thanks again to all the time keepers, marshals and bakers for their efforts tonight and through the race series.

‘Also, thanks to anybody who has competed this year. There were some cracking results tonight and the majority of people sig- nificantly beat their time for the same race in May, which was our aim for having this route at the start and end.’

The club will reveal who was the overall winner of the handicap competition, based on competitors best five times over the season, at an awards dinner held in November.
