Pupil’s eleven goals give Giffnock grief

-

GIFFNOCK will be glad they do not have to play the Pupils every week after they were dismantled at home in their first ever league appearance.

The young Pupils gave Giffnock a harsh welcome to the DFDL as they slaughtered them last weekend as the visitors bounced back in style from last week’s disappointing cup opener.

On a glorious sunny day, and an excellent 3G pitch, the game kicked off late due to a fixture pile-up. The referee started the game almost immediately, leaving little time for a warm-up, resulting in both teams taking time to settle.

The game was even for the opening 25 minutes, but the Pupils defence was rarely tested and as the game wore on the visitors started to create chances.

McGrory and McKillop both shot wide, as did Lang when clean through twice with only the keeper to beat.

With this profligacy no-one could foresee the impending whitewash when Pupils finally did make the breakthrough after 28 minutes, McGrory beating two and running into the box to slot past the keeper.

The second arrived just two minutes later, when a despairing late tackle brought McGrory down inside the area for an obvious penalty. He picked himself up to fire a second.

Just before half-time McKillop broke free to side-foot home and end the first half on a high.

With all five subs on at half-time and a few positional changes, Pupils ran riot scoring eight without reply.

Straight after kick-off MacBrayne played in Brown who made no mistake, before Brown notched again with an almost carbon copy goal.

MacIndeor got in on the act with a fine finish from McKillop’s attempted chip. Fellow sub Wallace ran through to hit his first goal of the season shortly after.

Great run

Souden, who had missed a great chance minutes before, with the bar still shaking but not from the ball, set off on a great run from his own half beating six players before firing home from close range.

Brown completed his hat-trick with a great finish at the far post following a good move down the Pupils left, before MacIndeor made it double figures with only a few minutes to go.

Just before full-time, MacBrayne made a fantastic run down the right, nutmegging the full back before selflessly crossing for McGrory to complete his hat-trick. He couldn’t keep his header down though with the goal gaping.

There was still time for one last attack and after winning a corner the ball fell kindly to Lang who tapped home to complete the rout.

A spokesperson for the team said: ‘It was a good start to another long league campaign but many more challenging games lie in wait, starting tomorrow at home to Westerton.

‘Thanks to Giffnock for getting the match on a 3G pitch to keep the game on. It was great to see a fantastic facility being used for nine hours with hundreds of kids and adults involved.’
