Changes revealed to BBC local radio after its shake-up
CHANGES to the BBC Radio Cambridgeshire schedule as part of a regional shake-up were announced yesterday (Wednesday, August 30).
The changes will come into effect from next Monday (September 4).
The BBC shared its plans to change afternoon, evening and weekend schedules across 39 stations over the East of England last year.
A spokesperson said the changes would “put local information at the heart of the online experience”.
Breakfast, mid-morning and weekend schedules will remain largely the same and local to each radio station.
Former BBC Radio Cambridgeshire presenter Jeremy Sallis had said his final farewell to listeners on July 27, having cited planned cuts to local radio as a reason for his departure.
On BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Chris Mann moves to the midmorning programme (10am-2pm).
Robert Thompson, senior head of production for BBC East, said: “This is a fantastic line-up of popular voices who love this region and are passionate about the people, stories and news here. Along with our new investigative news teams taking shape to give our audiences more in-depth local journalism for radio, TV and online and our local story teams, it really is a pivotal and exciting time for what’s to come from the BBC teams in the region.”
