A FAMILY have paid tribute to a devoted 25-year-old dad who was “the loveliest person” after he died unexpectedly.

Rhys Fraser Harris Hughes, from Deiniolen in Gwynedd, died on July 12, leaving behind his five-year-old son Guto.

The motorbike enthusiast, a former pupil at Ysgol Brynrefail in Llanrug, had worked as a mechanic for Dragon Custom Cycles in Felinheli for eight years before moving on to Motobeics Gwion Prys Motorbikes at Garndolbenmaen in May of this year.

Described as “a mummy’s boy through and through” Rhys was said to be very family-orientated and was very close to his older brother Sion.

His family have said his untimely death has left a “gaping hole” in their lives that they will never be able to fill.

They said: “Rhys was just the loveliest person – so easy-going and kind and always with a smile on his face.

“He was always up for a laugh and joke and was very quick witted. He’d always be able to break any tension with his great sense of humour.

“It was always a comfort having Rhys around because he was so fun-loving and could always see the funny side to things.

“He was so generous and would do anything for anyone.

“Rhys was an amazing father to Guto, who was born 10 weeks premature – he never left his side while he was in the hospital and they’ve always been very close.

“One of the last posts Rhys put on his Facebook page was a picture of Guto saying that he is his everything.

“He was very talented at his job – he just seemed to have this natural ability to fix things, especially bikes, ever since he was old enough to hold a spanner.

“One Christmas when he was six or seven years old his dad spent all of Christmas Eve putting a battery quad bike together for him but by the following afternoon it was all in bits again after Rhys took it apart to see how it all worked.

“As well as being a dab hand at mechanics, Rhys was also a massive animal lover who enjoyed fishing and being outdoors.

“He never really enjoyed computers or just sitting and watching television – he always had to be busy outside.”

Rhys’ stepsister MaryAnne has now set up a fundraising page in his memory with all funds raised going to his son Guto. More than £700 was donated in just 24 hours.

His family added: “His sudden passing has left a huge hole in the family that we can never fill.

“He was one of a kind – one in a million.

“As a family we won’t ever hear or see a motorbike without thinking about him.

“We’d like to thank everyone for their kind words and donations.”

Rhys’ funeral will take place at Bangor Crematorium on Friday, July 26, at 1.30pm.

He also leaves behind his mother Patricia and stepfather Steve, his father Tecwyn and stepmother Lynne, his brother Sion and sister-in-law Carly, his grandparents Helena and Hughie Hughes, a stepbrother and three stepsisters, and his step-grandparents along with autnies, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
