XMAS DISPLAY COSTS DAD A COOL £3,000
A HOUSE in Newhall has been adorned with £3,000 worth of Christmas lights, including a snow machine and a 16ft Christmas tree – and it’s taken three weeks to create the festive wonderland.
Carl Wadsworth, 28, said he has only been decorating his house in Chatsworth Road for the last two festive seasons – but he certainly seems to have been bitten by the bug.
He said he was following in the footsteps of his dad and sister, who have been turning heads after decorating their homes in Gresley and Hartshorne for years.
He said it had taken him three weeks to put the display together – and he isn’t finished yet.
“I have been adding more, not a lot, just some extra LED lights,” he said. “But I am looking for more.”
Carl, who works at Palletforce in Burton and does DIY with woodwork in his spare time, said he was hoping to build himself a model Santa in his sleigh, complete with reindeer, to go on top of his roof – if only he could work out how to get them up there.
“I just get these crazy ideas, but instead of dismissing them I just do them,” he said.
“My partner reckons I’m taking it too far, but I think she’s only joking because I always see her sending photos of the house to her mates.”
Carl added that although his is the only house in the neighbourhood with such a spectacular display, his neighbours enjoy his festive flair, regularly coming round to say how impressed they are.
He said the Christmas lights were a particular hit with his kids, daughter Callie, step-daughter Leah Lewis and step-son Korey Lewis.
“The neighbours are all happy and they come round saying how good it is, and the kids get all excited by it as well,” he said.
