Reading reportedly about to be hit by points deduction

READING are set to become the second Championship club to be hit with a points deduction this week, according to reports.

The Royals have been under investigation for breaching EFL spending rules.

The Daily Mail reports the club has accepted a six-point deduction, in addition to agreeing to a business plan to avoid further penalties.

Should the penalty be imposed, Reading would fall from 16th to 19th in the table, below Bristol City in the table.

Championship clubs are capped at operating losses of £39 million over a three-year period, but the Mail reports Reading’s losses exceeded that figure.

They are the second Championship outfit to be punished this week after Derby County were deducted a further nine points for financial breaches on Tuesday.

They had already lost 12 points in September due to entering administration, meaning they are bottom of the second tier on minus three points and in need of a miraculous escape to avoid relegation.

With City struggling for form, their bare minimum objective of survival has no doubt been made more straightforward by the points deductions, albeit through other clubs’ failings.

The Football Association will review Tuesday night’s FA Cup clash between Exeter and Bradford after the home side made six substitutions during 120 minutes.

The Grecians were within competition rules in making five changes during 90 minutes but then brought on Josh Key for Sam Nombe at the start of extra time.

Exeter went on to win the game 3-0 with two goals from Matt Jay sandwiching an effort from Nigel Atangana.

A statement from the Sky Bet League Two club read: “The matter will be considered by an FA committee and is in reference to the number of substitutions allowed during the match.

“Both clubs will be asked for their comments, along with the referee and fourth official.

“The matter will be referred to an FA committee who will decide on what course of action to take.”

Tottenham have appointed Marco Savorani as first-team goalkeeper coach. Savorani joins Antonio Conte’s backroom staff after recently finishing a seven-year spell with Serie A side Roma.
