A93 speed warning sign repair is delayed
Over year since accident
Work to restore the vehicleactivated sign reminding motorists that they are entering a 20mph zone at the junction of Boat Brae and Haugh Road in Rattray has hit another setback.
The vehicle-activated sign was installed some time ago following concerns raised by local residents about drivers failing to stick to the 20mph speed limit along that stretch of the busy A93 road and through the Wellmeadow.
After it was installed, it was several months before it was then activated.
And not long after it was eventually activated, a lorry crashed into the sign, knocking it over.
Although the pole and a 20mph sign were replaced, the vehicle-activated sign itself has not been replaced in the year-and-a-half since the original incident.
The latest setback came to light at the most recent meeting of Blairgowrie and Rattray Community
Council (BRCC).
Local councillor for the Blairgowrie and Glens ward, Bob Brawn, said: “As people will remember, the support pole for the VAS was severely damaged through a vehicle collision some time ago.
“Although the pole was replaced quite quickly and the sign put back in place, unfortunately the Covid pandemic delayed attempts to reconnect to the power supply.
“However, the accident also severed the power cable from the main supply and it now appears that during repairs the new power cable was not fed through to re-establish a connection.
“A civil contractor will now attend the site to try to feed the necessary cable down the duct to correct this and get the system up and running.
“Should that fail, the support pole will need to lifted and replaced with the necessary cable inserted.”
Cllr Brawn added: “PKC is aware of the urgency of getting this equipment working again and intends for this to be resolved as quickly as possible.”
