Second annualevent another High School hit

-

Blairgowrie High School’s second annual fashion show has been hailed as another great success with organisers promising that it will be back for a third event next year.

The show, which took place last week, was attended by hundreds of parents, grandparents, friends and siblings of the pupils involved.

It featured pupils from all years, as well as members of staff, modelling a range of clothes and accessories designed by students in the art department.

And this year, a group of primary seven pupils from Newhill Primary School also took to the catwalk modelling clothes that they had designed themselves as part of the transition process to the High School.

First year pupils at the school showed off the work they had been doing on textiles with their Hunderwasser fashion while S2 pupils showed off a range of accessories including hats, ties, glasses and capes - all of which they had designed and made themselves.

Senior pupils at the school showcased designs incorporating various styles including art deco, postmodern and recycled eco in stunning outfits that impressed the audience.

There were also performances from the school’s dance groups.

Principal teacher of art at the Beeches Road school, Sam Kennedy, was delighted with the show.

She said: “The fashion show is such a highlight in the art department’s busy schedule and the pupils respond with such enthusiasm to a live brief.

“This year we aimed for the work to be bigger and better and I was so impressed with the design outcomes on show.

“We also planted the seed early with our feeder primaries and had 21 primary seven pupils taking part in the show, which was a delight to see.

“Inclusive events like this are so important for pupils to experience, and it was so good to see the senior pupils helping to get juniors ready and guiding them through the show.

“There were literally hundreds of bits of work and the show is their first dress rehearsal in front of an audience and it is wonderful to see the adrenaline kick in and a bit of magic happens and the whole thing comes alive.

“I can’t thank my colleagues Mr Hunter, Ms Carr and Ms Petrie enough, they are a positive force and the show develops great working relationships between the staff and pupils.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the imagination, creativity and diversity of design ideas of Blairgowrie pupils than a fashion show.

“The pupils are so dedicated and we are all so proud of their hard work and determination to put on a great show.

“It was a fabulous night and won’t be forgotten.”

Mrs Kennedy’s delight was echoed by fellow staff members, parents and pupils at the school.

One teacher commented: “What an evening! Epic creativity and a fantastic inclusive event.

“I suspect that it will remembered as the highlight of their school days by many of the participants. A totally life enhancing experience.”

Pupil Pablo Rodriguez said: “I believe that Blairgowrie High has the best art department in Perth and Kinross, if not the whole of Scotland!

“The department has teachers that engage and encourage students to take part and create to the best of their abilities.”

And one very excited primary seven pupil, Esther Douglas, said: “It’s been great, the High School is brilliant!”
