Fundraising event in aid of Guide Dogs Scotland

-

came along to ‘Meet the Maker 3’ which, as with previous events, is to raise funds for Guide Dogs Scotland – a cause we feel is very worthwhile.

“We enjoyed another really great afternoon with lots of tastings and people buying Christmas gifts, and we greatly appreciate all the makers who support us and love working with them.”

It was the first time that the Old Piggery, which was established just six months ago, has attended an event of this sort.

Bec Barron said: “We are keen to support local events like this as it ties in with our whole ethos which is to supply locally-made produce to local people.

“This has been a great opportunity for us to do exactly that and provide local residents with an opportunity to buy local produce.”

Patricia Lawson, from the Wee Mallow Company, added: “What a wonderful event! It is a great way to raise awareness of local artisan producers and businesses as well as help a wonderful charity at the same time.

“Thanks to Lesley and Cargill’s for hosting this event, and for having such a great idea!”

Simon Fairclough from Persie Gin attended meet the maker fresh from the firm’s recent success at the Perthshire Business Star Awards.

He said: “This is a great effort by Lesley. I know she has been planning it a long time and was keen to bring Persie Gin on board for which we are very grateful.

“It was a thoroughly nice chance for us and other local producers to be able to showcase our products to local folk.”

There was also a raffle at the event with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses, including a watch donated by Blairgowrie jewellers Victor and Sons and a hamper, with all proceeds going towards the fundraising efforts for Guide Dogs Scotland.

The first name a puppy campaign organised by Lesley raised £5000 for Guide Dogs Scotland and the puppy’s name, as chosen by members of the public, is Bramble.

The second puppy will also have a Blairgowrie-themed name as approved by Guide Dogs Scotland, chosen from the remaining shortlist of six names Berry, Bluebell, Blair, Cargill, Newton or Rattray.

As before, people will be able to make a donation of £1 and vote for their favourite choice of name. People can vote as many times as they like and one lucky voter will also be in with a chance of meeting the puppy. Voting jars are located in various local businesses.

The next fundraising event is a quiz night on Thursday, January 26 in Cargill’s.
