Emergency response group move

Meeting to take plans forward

- Clare Damodaran

Members of Coupar Angus and Bendochy Community Council are looking to set up a community resilience group to promote the development of emergency plans for the area.

The move was discussed at a recent meeting. Group chair Wendy McCombes, explained: “Emergencies could be such things as flooding, road closures, heavy snowfall, major power cuts and gas explosions.

“In these circumstances communities or parts of a community might be cut off or forced to move out of their homes.

“If this were to happen the plans of the resilience group would swing into action and provide temporary accommodation, heat, food and amenities in the town until Perth and Kinross Council were able to offer specialist support.

“The local services would also be offered to travellers caught up in floods or heavy snow and residents who were at particular risk such as those on dialysis and pumped oxygen or new born babies and their parents.”

The resilience group will be set up by the community council but will be made up of people from outwith the community council.

Appropriate training will be provided where necessary and the local resilience group will connect with the Perth and Kinross multi-agency community and business resilience group as well as other local resilience groups.

An inaugural meeting is being held on Thursday, June 16 at 7pm in the Y Hall on Union Street in Coupar Angus and all interested parties are invited to attend.
