Two city restaurants at the top table in guide’s platinum list
A PAIR of Birmingham restaurants have scooped a tasty accolade after being recognised as among the finest in the UK.
Vegan restaurant Land, in the Great Western Arcade, and Digbeth’s 670 Grams have made it on to the Good Food Guide’s Platinum List. Only 18 UK restaurants were included in the list.
670 Grams opened in August 2020 but had to close just a couple of months later due to lockdown restrictions.
However, in that short space of time it certainly made an impression. In January this year, while still closed due to lockdown, it won a place in the Michelin Guide, and its chefowner, Kray Treadwell, was named Michelin Young Chef of The Year.
It is described in the Guide’s Platinum List as a “fun, playful place raised to another level by Kray Treadwell’s extraordinary food”.
Good Food Guide editor Elizabeth Carter said: “I’m sure many locals would like to keep this place under the radar, but sorry folks, the secret is out.”
Vegan eatery Land recently moved to a more spacious unit inside the Great Western Arcade due to its popularity with vegans and non-vegans alike – winning widespread praise from the likes of food critic Jay Rayner.
The guide praised Land for its stunning dishes adding: “With no compromise on flavour or texture, meat-free cooking has never been more vibrant.”
The guide added: “From the day it opened, Land wooed Birmingham diners, as our bulging inbox of praise proves. This entirely vegetarian/vegan restaurant has quickly established itself as a foodie destination – ‘absolutely stunning, the five-dish chef’s menu was a riot of technique and imagination’ is a typical endorsement.”
Other restaurants recognised in the list include Erst in Manchester, Mamo in Bristol and Noble Rot in London’s Soho.
