More high-rise flats on cards for Digbeth

-

A NEW mixed-use residential and commercial development reaching 21 storeys is set to be built in Birmingham city centre.

Plans have been lodged by Birmingham developer Prosperity to regenerate industrial land in Digbeth to create 650 apartments and new commercial space.

The application site covers two plots of land bounded by Bradford Street, Moseley Street, Barford Street and Rea Street and is currently occupied by a series of lowrise

industrial buildings which would all be demolished if the project gets the green light.

The proposals comprise six separate blocks of between and eight and 21 storeys alongside 30,000 sq ft of commercial space.

There would also be roof gardens and parking for 364 bikes but nothing for cars at the scheme which is called ‘Pressworks’.

The site is in an area of intense focus from property developers at present with Dandara last week

also revealing its plans for ‘Cheapside’, a development of more than 1,500 homes and a new business centre on land neighbouring this application site.

Also in the pipeline in the Digbeth district are SevenCaptial’s Connaught Square housing scheme and two high-rise residential projects by Court Collaboration on High Street Deritend which together will contain almost 1,500 apartments.

Prosperity’s chief executive Joe

Billingham said: “As local developers, we’re very excited to work with Birmingham City Council to bring the project forward and deliver further high-quality housing for our city. It’s also been great working with the team at Glancy Nicholls Architects to bring forward this scheme.

“The objective was to create a landmark development that dovetails into the city’s vision for the wider Smithfield master plan which we’ve hopefully achieved.”
