Feast your eyes (and stomach) on Birmingham

- Tina Bhakri

THE buoyant Birmingham property market has strengthened the city’s dining experience as the number of casual and fine dining restaurants and cafés rises.

The city is home to the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the UK outside London, with names such as Adam’s, Simpsons and Purnell’s.

But Birmingham is also leading the charge against other cities with its ‘every day’ dining experience, attracting both chains and independents such as The Indian Streatery, The Ivy and The Alchemist, along with the recent openings of Opheem and Tattu.

This, coupled with less formal offerings such as Digbeth Dining Club, has helped to cultivate a new urban environment making the city more vibrant than ever.

The city is continually evolving to meet current market demands for floor space. In years past, much of the space now occupied by eateries would have been taken by professional services firms and other businesses as offices. This change in use has seen a reduction in available space and corresponding rise in rental costs.

With recent successes such as Grand Central, it is evident that the demand for the ‘right’ commercial premises in Birmingham continues to outpace supply.

There are exciting times ahead for Birmingham as several more regeneration schemes are underway, including the mixed-use Paradise development and Primark Pavilions in the High Street.

These should also stimulate housing schemes, office developments and more inward investment to the City.

As confidence in Birmingham continues to grow, more businesses and individuals are looking to capitalise on this thriving market. Occupiers are investing in locations that provide an attractive environment for them to work and live. As an investor, this could be an ideal time to whet your appetite and invest in this flourishing city.
