Kevin predicts better times ahead for Blues

-

GOALKEEPING coach Kevin Hitchcock hopes a summer of recruitment under manager Harry Redknapp can push Birmingham City to success.

Hitchcock agreed to remain in his role next season after Redknapp put pen to paper on a one-year deal.

The 54-year-old, who was brought to the club by Gianfranco Zola in December, previously worked with Redknapp at QPR.

And after the management team pulled off a successful survival mission in the final games of last season, Hitchcock is predicting better times ahead for Blues after Redknapp has the opportu- nity to make his mark on the squad in the transfer window.

“I’m expecting us to experience really successful period,” he said.

“Hopefully the way Harry will bringing in top-quality players to group to help them, will make better.

“I think we can push on to be where this club wants to be and should be.”

Blues were riding high around the play-offs when Hitchcock was appointed by then-manager Zola seven months ago, but they went on to win just twice in 24 matches before the Italian resigned. a be, the us

That dismal run sent them spiralling towards the Championship’s bottom three before Redknapp came in and steadied the ship.

“It was very disappointing, there’s no disguising that,” said Hitchcock.

“But credit to everyone involved for turning it around at the end like we had to. It was very tense, very nervous and a very tough time for everyone. “But we saved ourselves in the end. “I felt we didn’t have a lot of luck (after Zola came in) and a lot of people would agree with that, but you can’t always be unlucky, can you?”
