Firm ‘delighted’ to help farm team

-

A group of organic vegetable farmers in Bath have found a muchneeded local supply of manure and other essential raw materials.

Middle Ground Growers supply vegetable boxes to 70 families each week but are hoping to increase that to 200 families and now additional support has arrived from local garden centre Hillier’s.

“It’s been amazing to support such a fantastic local cause with our donation to Middle Ground Growers,” said Toby Fielding from Hillier’s Bath.

“We love the work that they are doing here in Bath and we’re delighted to be able to contribute to their project and upcycle some of our items at our garden centre that we no longer use.”

In addition to the manure, Hillier’s has provided a wheelbarrow, tools, plant tables, supplier stands, shelving, organic peat-free compost, aggregates, an array of vegetable seeds, plant bulbs and seed potatoes, as well as unused wood.

Middle Ground Growers have already raised £60,000 of their £95,000 crowdfunding target since they opened their appeal on October 24. Recently the four young farmers purchased 16 acres of land in Upper Weston to upscale their operation.

“There is no reason why we cannot grow the majority of our calories and nutrients locally,” said Hamish Evans, co-founder of Middle Ground Growers. “We have found with our current vegetable box scheme that this also brings communities together, provides meaningful employment and a general sense of hope again to people’s lives.”
