Enjoy midweek treats at local bars and eateries

- Allison Herbert, CEO of Bath BID

This month, the BID launches two initiatives for the city. The first is something brand new and we are particularly proud to announce it as it is for us, the people who work and live in the city.

It’s called B-LOCAL and designed specifically for the community of Bath.

Some of our finest eating and drinking establishments have developed special treats and benefits for local people to enjoy midweek during school term times.

These restaurants, cafes and bars recognise that local people are the backbone of their business and want to find ways to give something extra. Each offer is different.

There’s lovely breakfast, pizza, coffee, fine dining and drinking options. Look out for a leaflet or have a look at www.b-localbath.co.uk to find out more.

Once you’ve made your selection, pop along with some proof that you live or work in the city (Discovery Card, employee badge, proof of address, etc.) and enjoy the benefits of being a local.

Bath is a beautiful city and during the summer it looks splendid when the flowers are out.

This month we have teamed up again with the Royal Victoria Park nursery to help Bath bloom even more.

The team now offers shops, restaurants, pubs and offices an allin-one service on summer floral arrangements.

This year the team will provide planters that include water reservoirs, a much more sustainable solution requiring less water, less labour, less fuel and thus less pollution. They don’t need moss which destroys natural habitats and the plant nutrients stay in the hanging baskets or window boxes resulting in healthier plants. Three new planting schemes have been devised – ‘Carnival & Festival’ which has hot pinks, oranges and reds to celebrate the city’s events, ‘Healing Spa’ which focuses on blues, mauves and whites to celebrate the city’s therapeutic history and ‘Astronomy’ which has silver and white displays to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo lunar landing and our city’s stargazing links.

As finalists in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom competition, we are looking forward to seeing these floral displays.
