Surgery skills amid the networking

-

Some of our Health and Care Award finalists have got together for a special event. The evening, hosted by title sponsor Emersons Green Treatment Centre, was a night of networking, nibbles and the odd bit of surgery– but don’t worry, it was just for fun. Emma Slee, editor of our website Bath Live, addressed finalists alongside director at the centre Rob Thomas. Both highlighted the increasing pressure medical staff deal with in the region, but were quick to praise healthcare teams for their constant hard work in the face of these struggles. One of the exhibitors at the event was the centre’s pharmacist Stephane Jaglin, a campaigner for Thrombosis UK. In the UK and worldwide, VTE – more commonly known as deep vein thrombosis – is a leading cause of death and disability. Alarmingly cases of VTE occurs every six seconds and is the biggest single killer above car accidents, Aids and cancer. “I am here talking about thrombosis because not many people know how much of a risk it is,” said Stephane. “Anyone can be at risk of it, even the ultra-fit and the young. We are about spreading the word.” The finalist evening was just a taster of what to expect at the Health and Care Awards ceremony which takes place next month. The event will be held on October 24 at Bristol Harbour Hotel and will bring together some of our two cities’ very best healthcare heroes. If you would like to join us for the celebration – along with a three-course meal and drinks – you can by purchasing a seat or table.
