N.Wales stars to do battle for British rally title

A CLOSE contest between two North Wales drivers for this year’s British Rally Championsh­ip, will provide an enthrallin­g spectacle at this weekend’s Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally which starts and finishes on Llandudno promenade on Saturday (October 30).

Currently leading the championsh­ip, is Machynllet­h’s Osian Pryce who has a 16 point lead over his closest rival, two time British champion Matt Edwards from Colwyn Bay, who’s looking for a third successive British Championsh­ip title. Both men are competing Volkswagon Polo GTI R5 cars prepared by Melvyn Evans Motorsport.

After Edwards suffered a blip, which caused him to lose significan­t time on the two opening stages of the event, Pryce topped the BRC leaderboar­d at the recent Mull Rally in Scotland, with Edwards showing tremendous grit and determinat­ion

On his home rally, with the action taking place in the forests of Conwy county, Edwards will be going all out for victory and plans to play his bonus points Joker.

The Cambrian also hosts the penultimat­e round of the British Trials and Rally Drivers Associatio­n

Championsh­ip which is being equally closely contested, with George Lepley from Newark, holding a slender lead over the recently crowned Scottish Rally champion, Garry Pearson, and rival Ian Bainbridge.

And the same three drivers are also in close contention to win the Pirelli Welsh National Rally Championsh­ip

title with points gained on the Cambrian likely to prove decisive.

There will also be live coverage throughout the day on social media, which will be provided by Julian Porter and Chris Rawes from the World Rally Championsh­ip and FIA ERC coverage; Killian Duffy and Andy Walsh from Onthepacen­ote; the Special Stage Rally Review team; and Sideways Media who will be broadcasti­ng from every stage end with two full stages live.

This is in addition to the British Rally Championsh­ip and Pirelli Welsh Rally Championsh­ip broadcasti­ng from their own channels.

Additional­ly, media students from Coleg Llandrillo will be contributi­ng reports from the service area throughout the day.
