EGGER submits plans to boost output in Ayrshire

-

East Ayrshire’s largest manufacturing company has submitted proposals to pave the way for growth in output.

EGGER Barony wants to maximise operational output and increase productivity from the current 420,000m3 of raw chipboard per annum to 480,000m3 per annum by 2023.

The proposals will remove current restrictions to transport movements to and from the plant and help ease current congestion during peak time.

Submission of the plan follows discussions with East Ayrshire Council, local residents and communities as well as two Community Information Days held at the plant.

A Traffic Management Plan was submitted in tandem with the application which details the outcome of the removal of current restrictions to transport movements to and from the plant.

It is expected that the number of additional HGV movements per day will increase to six by 2023.

Heiko Lichtblau, Plant Director Technical/ Production at EGGER, said: “I’d like to thank those who took the time to attend our Information Days, it was a great opportunity to get feedback on our proposals and we are pleased with the support we received.

“By removing the conditions we would be able to increase site manufacturing from approximately 420,000m3 of raw chipboard per annum to 480,000m3 by 2023 and increase efficiency in our supply chain by being able to receive deliveries from our plant in Hexham for essential materials and maximise output.

“Should we be successful, it would allow us to seek approval from our board for further investment of around £ 4.5 million to install a lamination line on site.

“We are committed to the Barony plant, and we value our ongoing dialogue with local neighbours and the community.

“Our positive feedback shows that local residents are assured that the slight increase in daily journeys will ease the current peak of congestion experienced first thing in the morning.”
