Knife teen tearaway’s crime orgy

-

An out- of- control teen has been told she will be supervised for her criminal behaviour.

Shannon Duffy, 18, admitted eight out of 21 charges put against her at Ayr Sheriff Court.

The teen pled guilty to charges including carrying knives, deliberately starting f i res, smashing a car windscreen and costing hundreds in damages to property.

Charge one stated that Duffy set fire to a blanket inside a bathroom at Brownhill Cottage in Tarbolton, where she had been living at the time, on February 19, last year.

Duffy told workers at the care accommodation that she wanted to go shopping but wanted to be in control of the cash – and if she didn’t get the money she would burn the place down.

Duffy then took a blanket into the bathroom and set it alight using a lighter.

She eventually opened the door after the smoke became too much for her.

Duffy started another fire on April 7 in the toilet just off the kitchen at the same residence.

She set fire to toilet paper and remnants were found in the bath which had been damaged by the blaze.

The court heard Duffy smashed an employee’s car windscreen with a metal pole – costing £ 600 in damage – after she wasn’t allowed access to her phone.

Charge three detailed that Duffy brandished a knife and uttered threats on March 11 while travelling in a car between Brownhill Cottage and Stewarton Railway Station.

She told staff she would “slit their throats” and claimed: “I could actually get away with murder.”

Duffy was later traced at Stewarton Train Station where officers found a 2.5 inch blade in her right pocket.

The teenager was caught with a knife on another occasion on April 8 at West Shaw Street in Kilmarnock, when she assaulted Tesco Extra security officer Lorimer John Kemp by threatening him with violence and presenting a knife at him.

Police found her to be in possession of a small orange handled knife with a rusty blade.

Duffy, of Lamond Drive in Langlee, Falkirk was placed on a community payback order.

A conduct requirement of her court order details she must attend for drink and drug counselling, stay at any addresses assessed as suitable by her supervising officer and attend for mental health treatment.

She will be supervised for two years.
