Prestwick flooding’s big issue

- Jim Riach

Prestwick South Community Council had a busy agenda at the November meeting.

Flooding Due to Inadequate Sewer Capacity: Sid Brierley from the internet group Prestwick Residents Action Against Flooding reported that they have been successful in getting Scottish Water to hold a public information event to discuss their strategy to reduce the risk and impact of flooding. This will take place in the Prestwick Indoor Bowling Club on Monday, December 11, between 2.30pm and 6.30pm.

Police Report: A total of 47 crimes were reported during the previous 4 weeks with 23 relating to shoplifting in retail shops and supermarkets. Other cases related to assaults, vandalism, road traffic offences, disorder, house break- ins, breach of bail, drugs, and abusive texts and calls.

Free Wi- Fi and A Digital Town: Vice- chair Norrie Smith outlined the vision for this

concept with the main intention being the provision of free wi- fi from the airport to the Main Street. Part of this project would involve an APP providing information and services for both visitors and residents. Norrie Smith has been invited and will attend The Cross Party Group for Towns and Town Centres at Holyrood to take part in a discussion on ‘ Towns – More than a Retail Economy’.

The next meeting will be held in Kingcase Church Hall at 7pm on Thursday, January 25.

As always, members of the public are warmly invited to attend.
