Craig is chasing a Glens record

Two wins away from their best ever points tally

Craig McEwan insists Glenafton are not even thinking of a Premier League title fling – all they want is a new points record.

McEwan’s Glens will go top if they beat Hurlford at home on Saturday and leaders Rob Roy slip at Auchinleck.

But the Loch Park gaffer has other targets in sight.

McEwan revealed: “Our first goal is to reach 32 points, which is the highest tally Glens have ever had in the top league.

“We’re now only two wins away from that so let’s get there and then take stock. Hurlford is a big game for us and a chance to go top if we win and other results go our way.

“But I’m not thinking of winning leagues as there is still a long way to go.”

Glens, who have lost only once in 11 games, kept up their hot run with a 1- 0 win at Cumnock thanks to a goal from Darren McGill.

But McEwan admitted: “It was smash and grab. Cumnock will feel aggrieved they didn’t take anything from the game as they were an aerial threat.

“We needed to roll up our sleeves and hang in as there was a rustiness about us but I’ll take 1- 0 any day.”

Peter Leonard’s men climbed to fourth with a stunning 3- 1 win at Petershill, thanks to a Michael Reilly double and a strike from Scott Dinwoodie before the break. Peasies got one back late on.

Leonard admitted: “It’s never easy going to Glasgow and winning. Reilly had a chance for his hat- trick and David Cunningham also missed one.

“We now face Renfrew on the astrograss. There are still 16 games to go and although we are well placed it’s not even halfway.”

Second- top Vics fell seven points behind leaders Winton when they crashed 2- 1 at Dalry and had Craig Harvey sent off for comments to the ref.
