Hundreds go for skills seminar

-

More than 200 Ayrshire school pupils found out more about apprenticeships at a special event.

National skills agency Skills Development Scotland ( SDS) were the hosts for the seminar, which was attended by employers, training providers and partners at the two day event.

Also included were exhibits and demonstrations from local employers such as GSK, GE Aviation, UTAS, JB Management, North Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire College.

SDS Director of National Training Programmes, Katie Hutton, said: “More and more young people across Scotland are choosing apprenticeships and work based learning to get their careers off to a great start.

“We’re encouraged by the level of interest in work based learning and hope that the available advice along with the dedicated website apprenticeships. scot will help inform young people when making choices about their future.”

STEM Lead at GSK Irvine, Fiona Bradbury, said: “Across GSK our vision as an innovative, science- led company is to inspire, educate, recruit and develop the next generation of talent who will deliver ground- breaking ideas of the future.

“Our well established apprenticeship programme is a major investment in young people who we believe have the potential to become future leaders.

“Events like this really help to bring apprenticeships to life for students considering their options.”

The event took place at Seamill Hydro with pupils from North and South Ayrshire attending.
