They are at the helm of the New Cumnock Primary School, and now this team of cleaners have scooped a national award for their spotless efforts.

The hardworking team led by cleaning supervisor, Ray Graham, swept to victory, winning the ‘ Cleaning Team of the Year 2016’ at the Association of Service Solutions in Scotland Awards.

The judges were impressed with the team’s flexibility, doing everything from assisting in janitorial duties, assisting with the school crossing patrol and free school meal initiatives.

On top of their duties, the clean team, who were nominated by their manager Gordon Scott, attended regular meetings learning about health and safety, fire prevention, school maintenance, risk assessment and customer services.

East Ayrshire Council’s Head of Facilities and Property Management, Andrew Kennedy told the Post: “This is a superb achievement for Ray and her team.

“Their commitment and passion for what they do in the local community shines through.

“They can all be relied upon to do an excellent job, even in some challenging conditions, such as flooding when a local river bust its banks.”

They have been proactive in researching and introducing new, greener and more efficient products into their work and their productivity rates consistently exceed national standards.

Supervisor Ray added: “We’re just over the moon with the award, we really believe in what we do, have fun doing it and make sure we look out for others.

“The whole team share the same attitude of “being best for our school and community” and the ASSIST award is as much for the school, pupils, parents, community and staff as it is for us, it’s a great wee team and we love our jobs.”
