If you had trouble putting YOUR clocks back!...

-

ST OSWALD’S Church’s clock has been given an annual service, as British Summer Time got under way and its hands moved forward one hour on Saturday night.

Ashbourne clock maker Neil Haycock got to work on the bell hammers and mechanisms in the Mayfield Road Church’s belfry at the base of the 212ft spire.

The church is looking forward to welcoming people back for private prayer and services, following a further easing of the coronavirus lockdown on Monday.

With Easter nearing, the church will be open all day today, and on Good Friday afternoon from 2pm until 3pm, when there will be music, readings and reflections.

On Easter Sunday there will be three services, beginning at 6.30am with the Sunrise Eucharist with a Candle procession and the chanting of the Easter Proclamation, “The Exsultet”. Two socially-distanced services of Holy Communion will follow, one at 9am and a second at 10.30am, each with music from the organ, though singing is still not allowed.

The church will then remain open for the rest of the day and on subsequent Wednesdays and Sundays following the restarting of 10.30am services.

On Easter Sunday morning, services of Holy Communion will be held at 9.15am St John’s Church in Buxton Hill, at 9.15am at St Mary’s Church in Mappleton, at 9.30am St Peter’s Church in Snelston, at 10.45am at Holy Trinity Church in Clifton and at 11am at St Mary and St Barlock Church in Norbury.

Good Friday Meditations and Easter Sunday service of Holy Communion from St Oswald’s will also be online atashbournechurch.org

At Ashbourne Methodist Church, the congregation will gather for communion outside on Easter Sunday. Its main service will be on Youtube and Facebook from 10.30am, then at the church frontage between 11.30am and 2.30pm to receive communion.
