Another successful MOKFest

-

The Mull of Kintyre Music Festival opened on Wednesday August 8 in Campbeltown with the Gaelic night featuring music from Kim Carnie, Innes White and friends.

Following on from that the Young Folk Night saw some of the best young musicians in Kintyre. This popular addition has become a great showcase for young musicians and performers over the years.

The festival continued with the Festival Ceilidh Night with The Grouse Ceilidh Band, Rhuvaal, Dalriada Connections Band and Beinn an Tuirc Distillers Kintyre Schools Pipe Band, followed by the Festival Traditional Night on August 11 featuring Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham and closed on August 12 with the Dalradia Connections Concert.

The festival attracted music-lovers from all over for a riotous week of classic and modern tunes. Martyn Webster travelled from Switzerland to swim Loch Awe, Scotland’s longest freshwater loch, on July 9.

He completed the swim in a provisional record time (pending validation by the British Long Distance Swimming Association) of 13hrs 30mins 37secs. He swam from Torran Bay, Ford, and finished at the Kilchurn rail bridge, a distance of 38.4km (23.9 miles).

Martyn is an experienced long-distance swimmer and has completed swims around Manhattan Island, across the Straits of Gibraltar, and found this swim ‘tougher than the English Channel’ and described the Pass of Brander as ‘like swimming in a washing machine’.

The support boat was hired from Cliff and Janet at Loch Awe Boats, Ardbrecknish.
