Triple the fun

-

Organisers have asked for plenty of support as the Mid Argyll Triathlon is held this Sunday.

IT’S TIME for the MacQueen Bros Mid Argyll Triathlon.

The 15th edition of this annual race is all set for Sunday September 25, and it is sure to be a cracker.

Heroics

With a full entry – perhaps inspired by the recent heroics of the Brownlee brothers – the event begins at 10.50am with the first heats in a 500 metre swim at MACPool. This is followed by a gruelling 20km bike ride past Cairnbaan towards Bellanoch, across the Crinan Canal and on to the Mhoine Mhor before returning via Dunadd and Kilmichael to finish back at the pool. The race climaxes with a 6.5km run towards Ardrishaig on the canal bank before returning to the finishing line back at the MACPool.

This triathlon has proved more popular than ever.

Fierce rivalry

Organiser Stephen Whiston confirmed that there is, in fact, a waiting list of wouldbe entrants, adding: ‘There is also going to be some fierce rivalry in the race, with local teams from Mid Argyll and Kintyre hoping to beat the Glasgow University Tri team.

‘We are hoping that people will cheer on the cyclists and runners as they whizz round the bike course and head for Ardrishaig.’

The race is expected to finish by around 2pm, and prizes will be presented at 2.30pm to 3pm.
