Glenfiddich Challenge Trophy shoot
GLENDARUEL and Colintraive Gun Club welcomed people from all over Argyll and beyond to compete for the Glenfiddich Challenge Trophy on June 4.
Good weather was no doubt a factor in attracting an excellent turn out of 37 guns. Such a large field confirms the popularity of this competition.
The trophy was keenly contested and there was a tie for first place between John Gilchrist, Campbeltown, and Stewart MacNeill, East Kilbride, on 146 points. After battling it out in a shoot-off, John was victorious.
Third place was also a tie on 143, between Gordon Griffiths, Garelochhead, and Alan Brown, Rothesay.
Fourth and fifth places were taken by Paul Chalmers, Cairndow, and David Milton, Dumbarton, with 140 and 139 points respectively.
Best junior and winner of the Glendaruel Challenge Cup for the highest score by a club member, went to Archie McBride with 137 points. Stewart MacNeill continued an excellent day’s shooting by winning the pool trap competition.
The club was extremely grateful to William Grant and Sons, represented by Anna Morrison, who sponsored the shoot and provided presentation bottles of Glenfiddich to the winners.
In fact, there were no losers, as all the competitors were presented with a miniature bottle of Glenfiddich, and a set of place mats embossed with the company’s trade mark – a stag’s head.
This was very generous support for a local club and much appreciated by all who competed.
John Morris from the gun club said: ‘The consensus was that the day was a great success with practical support being offered by many towards maintaining the traps, refereeing, and scoring the competitions.
‘The club is rightly proud of the excellent standard of the catering and thank all those who provided the home baking. Thanks are also due to Pat Currie and Johann McBride who worked tirelessly all day catering for those present.’
