NOW’S the time to bank your biggest-ever haul of commercial carp.

Some of the UK’s most famous fisheries are currently thowing up huge weights for match and pleasure anglers alike, and big names in the sport, along with owners of the best fisheries in the land, are this week encouraging anglers to get out there and make the most of the incredible form of stillwaters. One such angler is big-weight specialist Andy Power.

After finishing runner-up in the recent Fish O’Mania final he booked his place in another bigmoney fish-off by netting 216lb 2oz of carp in the Golden Reel Angling Championships Qualifier at the ever-popular Heronbrook Fisheries in Staffordshire.

He justified the long journey up from Somerset when he banked carp shallow on the pole at 14.5m and finished almost 15lb clear of his nearest rival.

“Now’s the time to catch a big weight of carp,” Andy told Angling Times.

“Water temperatures are settled and all the spawning has finished, so carp are feeding with confidence and can be caught on a wide variety of methods, making them ideal for anglers of all abilities. “If there’s high pressure then you’ll catch shallow, but if the pressure drops then you’ll get bites on the deck.”

Famous bagging waters Drayton and Boddington Reservoirs in Northamptonshire have been producing their biggest weights of the year so far, with pleasure anglers recording three-figure weights every day.

“Drayton is on fire at the moment, but it’s not just this water that produces some of its biggest catches at this time of the year.

“There are so many waters across the UK that are doing the same,” said Mark Ryder, who runs Drayton Reservoir. Other waters such as Westwood Lakes in Lincs, Decoy Lakes in Cambridgeshire, Essex’s Tylers Common, Todber Manor in Dorset and Lindholme Country Park in Doncaster are just some in a long line of fisheries that are urging anglers to come and cash in on their best form so far in 2017.

“Anglers of all ages and abilities have been coming up to me in the last week and said that they’ve had their biggest catches ever,” said Neil Grantham, owner of Garbolino Lindholme Lakes.

“The quality of commercial fisheries in the UK is just amazing, as every angler in the country now has access to a water that will provide huge nets of fish. “There’s never been a better time to beat your personal best weight.”
